What to expect
A typical exterior, day by day
A one-story home often runs three to six working days. Your estimate gives the range for yours, and weather can move it.
- 01Day 1
Step 1: Day one: wash and cover
You will see: a pressure washer, drop cloths and plastic over windows and tile. You do: park away from the walls and move pots.
- 02Day 2
Step 2: Day two: repairs
You will see: cracks opened and filled, patches being textured. You do: nothing; this is the day to point out anything we missed.
- 03Day 3
Step 3: Day three: primer and the patch
You will see: bare spots sealed and, if you chose a match, the test patch. You do: look at the patch in the evening.
- 04Days 4–5
Step 4: Days four and five: color
You will see: the coats going on, shaded walls first. You do: keep pets in and the sprinklers off.
- 05Day 6
Step 5: Day six: trim and walk-around
You will see: doors, trim and beam ends finished and the covers removed. You do: walk the house with us and tell us what to fix.
Day counts are typical. Your estimate states yours.
Weather
Dry air, hot walls and afternoon storms
Dry air dries paint fast, and a hot wall can dry it too fast to flow out smoothly. In warm months we start with the shaded walls and move around the house with the sun. From July through September a storm can arrive in the afternoon. We watch the sky, cover what is wet, and call you before we move a day.

Your part
What we ask of you
Clear the walls
Cars, pots, furniture and decorations at least a few feet from the walls.
Open the gate
Side yards and back walls need access on day one.
Keep pets inside
Wet paint and open cans are not for paws.
Tell us what to leave
A mural, a tile, a tin sign: show us before we mask.
About the week
How long does an exterior take?
A one-story home is often three to six working days. Wind, rain and cold nights can move days. Your written estimate gives a range for your house, and we call you before we change it.
Do I need to move anything?
Park cars away from the walls, move pots and furniture off the patio, and keep pets inside. We cover plants, tile and anything that stays.
How does weather change the schedule?
Dry air dries paint fast, and heat and wind can dry it too fast. In warm months we start shaded walls first thing and finish sunny ones later. Afternoon storms from July through September can move a day, and we call you before they do.
How do you protect plants, tile and beam ends?
Drop cloths on the ground, plastic and tape on windows, tile and doors, and wraps on beam ends and plants. Whatever we cover comes off before we leave each day.
